Professor Lin Zonghu was born in 13, May,1933 in Wuzhou City Zhejiang Province and graduated from the Graduate School of Jiaotong University in 1957. Now, he is the professor and Ph.D. Degree Supervisor of the Thermal Energy Engineering Department of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the member of review group of the National Natural Science Foundation, the member of the National Scientific and Technique Award Committee, the president of the Academic Committee of the National Fluid Machine Engineering Research Center, member of the Academic Committee of the National Engineering Research Center of coal clean combustion and National Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering. He also serves as the vice chairman of the Chinese Engineering Thermophysics Society, the director of the Multiphase Flow Division of the Chinese Engineering Themophysics Society, the vice chairman of the Engineering Thermophysics Society of Shaanxi Province, the vice chairman of the Metrology and Measurement Society of Shaanxi Province, the specialist of the Academic Review Bureau of Hong Kong and the vice chief editor of the Journal of Engineering Thermophysics etc. He is a famous specialist in the regions of thermal energy engineering, gas-liquid two-phase flow, heat transfer and multiphase flow measurement at home and abroad. He has obtained the title of ¡° The National Class Specialist with Distinguished Contributions¡± in 1988, the title of ¡°The Excellent Scientific Researcher of Shaanxi Province¡± in 1989 and was elected to be the member of The Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.
Professor Lin has obtained multiple creative research results in the region of multiphase flow and heat transfer which are important theories of thermal energy engineering, nuclear power and petrochemical engineering etc. In respect of gas-liquid two-phase flow: he created a correlation for determining two-phase flow rate measured by an orifice. This correlation can be applied for different pressure, void fraction, multiple two-phase flow as well as changeable pressure, and is called Lin¡¯s correlation recommended as the best one among similar correlations. This correlation has been received into 6 books and used widely. He is the first to research systematically into the mechanism of two-phase pressure drop type pulsation in U type tubes and created its numerical calculating procedure. At the same time, he has solved the serious pulsation problem of utility boilers. Besides, he has created 3 correlations for calculating the two-phase flow frictional pressure drop as well as 1 correlation for determining the void fraction, which has been used widely. In respect of boiling heat transfer: he created the first boiling heat transfer correlation under the flow pulsation condition, it may be applied for bare tubes and tubes with heat transfer enhancement techniques. He also obtained research results in the region of subcold boiling and stable boiling heat transfer. In respect of multiphase measurement: on the basis of Lin¡¯s correlation, he first solved the international difficult problem of measuring two-phase flow rate and void fraction simultaneously by using only one measuring element. This research result has obtained Chinese Patent and has been used widely.
Up to now Professor Lin has obtained the Chinese National Natural Science Award, the Scientific Research Award of National Educational Committee and other Awards given by provinces or ministry 12 times and 7 patents. He has published 17 books, among them 9 books were written by him alone or as the first author, such as ¡°Characteristics of Gas-Liquid Two-Phase Flow In Pipelines and Their Engineering Applications¡±, ¡°Heat Transfer Enhancement and Its Engineering Applications¡±, ¡°Gas-Liquid-Solid Particles Multiphase Flow Measurements¡±, ¡°Gas-Liquid Two-Phase Flow and Boiling Heat Transfer¡±, ¡°Internal Process of Boilers¡± and ¡°Boiler measurements¡± etc. He has published 150 academic papers, educated 15 Ph.D. graduate students and 22 M.D. graduate students.
