In 1961, he graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University. He had been the President of Tubular Goods Research Center of China National Petroleum Corporation with the title of Professor for long time. He was elected as the academician of China Academy of Engineering in 1997. In 1999, he acted as the concurrent Professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University. Now he is the honorary President of Material science and Engineer College and the director of the college's academic committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University.

Academy and Scientific Findings

Li Helin academician is an expert of material science and engineer. He has always been engaged in the scientific and technological work on petroleum machinery steel and oil tubular goods engineering, regarded as the main beginner in this field in China. He managed the research and production of 10 kinds of new materials, which had enabled a lot of petroleum machinery to have better quality at the international advanced levels. He proposed and founded academic field of the "oil tubular goods engineering", having conducted a number of systematic and creative research. Over 23 achievements won the ministerial and provincial awards for scientific and technologic advances, and 9 national awards. Three important accomplishments were transferred for the use of international pipe manufactures. American Petroleum Institute adopted the results of 6 his R&D items for revision of its specification. Tubular Goods Research Center once long time under his leadership has gradually become one research base and quality inspection, assessment and arbitration center for oil tubular goods engineering with recognition both at home and aboard. The center is now the technical incorporated unit for 3 committees of the International Standardization Organization and American Petroleum Institute in China. He has published 7 books and 170 papers. In 1988, he was elected as national level middle-aged and young expert who had made outstanding contribution. In 1994, he got Sun Yueqi Energy Resource Prize of China Science and Technology Development Fund.
He is the council's standing member of CMRS and CSCP, and is the president of council of SHAANXI MRS and Failure Analysis branch society of CMES.
